Vic Mensa – U Mad Feat. Kanye West

Vic Mensa drops new track “U Mad” featuring Kanye West. Listen to it here!

Kanye West performed a surprise show at Koko in Camden, London a few weeks ago. During the Show Yeezy brought a long list of rappers to join him on stage, including Big Sean, CyHi The Prynce, Skepta, members of Wu-Tang Clan. One of those rappers was Chicago-native Vic Mensa whom he debuted a new song with called “U Mad”.

“U Mad” is the latest collaboration to come from Chicago’s Vic Mensa. Mensa last appeared on Kanye West’s “Wolves” with SIA, so it makes sense for Kanye to repay the favour. The production is heavy with the horns but provides a decent soundboard for Mensa to showcase some lyrical work:

Ain’t my fault you ain’t the man, made a plan, man it was planned.
They sleeping on me like long flights, I pop a Xan on the way to France
Paparazzi like, “Oh that’s him!”, pour that gin, let’s get faded,
Drinkin’ like it’s no tomorrow, what’s today? I’m in the Matrix

Of course, Kanye appears on the production credits along with Mike Dean (MBDTF, Watch The Throne), Smoko Ono, Stefan Ponce (v.3005) and Charlie Heat. “U Mad” a solid track: the basic beat is catchy and loud, possibly inspired by America’s recent appreciation of UK Grime. ‘Ye’s verse is okay but thankfully Vic Mensa reminds us he’s in charge with his second verse. Kanye:

Bust a nigga head and then I lay low,
These niggas ass-water, get the Drano.
She ain’t really bad, she a photo thot;
I should hire this bitch, she so damn good at Photoshop

“U Mad” is notably different from Vic Mensa’s previous work: the INNANETAPE mixtape features more lyricism with alt-rock style production (“Orange Soda“). All this while providing a similar style to his often-collaborator friend Chance The Rapper. Even Mensa’s hit single “Down On My Luck” differs from “U Mad”. Either way, the track is catchy!
