Kendrick Lamar talks about his new album To Pimp A Butterfly, depression and getting engaged to his High School in exclusive new interview
Today the Compton rapper visited New York station Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club to talk about his new album. During the interview which included discussion on the rollout of his latest album, the reception from fans and critics alike and Tupac’s appearance on the LP – the rapper also explained the reason for the depression he raps about on his latest album.
During the interview, Kendrick also confirmed rumours that he’s engaged to his childhood sweetheart Whitney Alford, saying: “Yeah, definitely. I’m loyal to the soil”. The couple live together in South Bay, California, when quizzed further Kendrick continued:
“At the end of the day, you want to always have real people around you, period […] Everybody that’s been around me, they been around me since day one, and I can’t change that. I always show respect when respect has been given. People that been by your side, you’re supposed to honour that.”
