just incase kendrick’s verse on Kanye’s “all day” wasn’t enough, Have a listen to the full Kendrick Lamar verse on Flying Lotus’ track “Eyes Above”
Kendrick Lamar first collaborated with Steven Ellison aka Flying Lotus on the track “Never Catch Me” that featured on the latter’s 2014 album You’re Dead!. Last night the experimental producer shared the full minute-long version of their second collab “Eyes Above” via his BBC Radio 1 show. This was a pleasant surprise to those not fortunate enough to see Lotus play this track at his live shows.
It takes a special kind of MC to be able to enthral the listener in a verse lasting just over a minute but that’s exactly what K. Dot does. He raps eloquently over Ellison’s extraterrestrial sounds, accompanied by the captivating bass created by Thundercat.
While Flying Lotus is responsible for only one production credit on Kendrick’s acclaimed sophomore LP To Pimp a Butterfly, his friendship with Lamar opened the door for Ellison’s protégé and bassist Thundercat to take on a huge role on the album.
In fitting style, Kendrick shows his appreciation for FlyLo as he spits;
This is no radio fluke, this is me takin’ your food
This is you bullied to school, give up your jacket and shoes
This how I practice the rules, this is what happen when dudes
Like Flying Lotus notice the genius they wrote it is rude
Listen to Kendrick’s furious verse below.
